LIVE: President Biden Inauguration

Update (11:18 A.M.)  – In a move that defies the traditional transfer of power, outgoing President Donald Trump left the White House early this morning before welcoming President-elect Joe Biden. 

Before boarding Air Force One for the last time, Trump spoke to supporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. In his remarks he acknowledges the incoming administration, saying, “I wish the new administration great luck and great success…they have the foundation to do something spectacular”. 

Before boarding his flight, he also left the door open for another campaign, stating “we will be back in some form.”

Today is the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden along with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Due to COVID-19 procedures, there will be no crowd in the National Mall to watch the inauguration, but it is being streamed live here.

President-elect Joe Biden will take the oath of office and be sworn in at 12 p.m. when he will officially become the 46th President of the United States. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be the first female Vice President, as well as the first Black and South Asian Vice President.

Soon after his inauguration, Biden plans on signing many executive orders to reverse policies put in place by the Trump administration.

Update (11:44 A.M.)

Kamala D. Harris is now sworn in by Justice Sonia Sotomayor as the vice president of the United States. Making her the first Woman, first Woman of Color, and first person of South Asian descent to hold the office of Vice President.

Joseph R. Biden is now sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, making him the oldest person to hold the office of President.
